Shedd Aquarium Rescues Sea Otter Pup
January 26, 2012 - Shedd Aquarium, a national leader in sea otter rehabilitation, announced today that it has acquired a 10-week-old orphaned southern sea otter pup (Enhydra lutris nereis) from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) as part of the conservation effort for the threatened population in California.

Shedd Aquarium Welcomes Over 2.1 Million Guests in 2011
January 26, 2012 - Over 2.1 million guests from all over the world explored the wonders of the water world at Shedd Aquarium last year, making 2011 the best attended year on record for the aquarium in the last decade. With these recent figures, Shedd strengthens its position as Chicago’s most-attended cultural attraction for the fifth year in a row.

Shedd Aquarium to Close on Jan. 23-24
January 18, 2012 - Shedd Aquarium will be closed on Monday, Jan. 23 through Tuesday, Jan. 24, for routine maintenance and cleaning. Shedd Aquarium will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 25 with Illinois Residents Discount/Free General Admission Week, sponsored by Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Ford Motor Company, through Saturday, Jan. 28.

During Illinois Resident Discount/Free General Admission Week from Wednesday, Jan. 25 through Saturday, Jan. 28, sponsored by Ford Motor Company Fund, the philanthropic arm of the Ford Motor Company, all Illinois residents will enjoy FREE general admission to the original galleries and discounted admission to all other exhibits.
